X-mas Tree :: X-mas Shopping Done

This year instead of buying our tree, having it sit undecorated for two weeks and finally decorating it the week before Christmas we were on it.   We picked up AND decorated our tree on the same day!!  Mj compromised and we went a little smaller this year like I wanted.  And it's a good thing too because we don't have an SUV this year.  We bought the tree from the lot down and across the street from our house and Mj literally picked it up and carried it home. It looked so funny watching him run across the street with a Christmas Tree in his arms.  He got kind of filthy along the way but he made it.  We put on some Christmas music and drank wine while we decorated.   We didn't even need all of our decorations and lights because the tree is smaller.  I used two boxes of candy canes because half will be gone by Christmas...I have a tendency to eat them right off tree.

I also did all of my Holiday shopping on Saturday in about 3 hours and 4 stores.  Things aren't too crowded yet so it wasn't so bad and I pretty much knew exactly what I was going for.  I wanted to get it done as soon as possible so I wouldn't have to think about doing it anymore as the stores get more crowded by the day.  Our family keeps it simple to save time and money by doing a gift exchange among the adults.  We've been doing it for the last 5 years or so now.  As adults we don't need a lot of presents and it gets harder and harder to think of things we want anyways so this works pretty well.  We write down three things we want, draw names and aren't allowed to have our significant others.  This means I only have to shop for the family Secret Santa, my little nephew and Mj.  I spend less time running around buying things and more time enjoying this time of year.  I have to pick up two more items but other then that now I can just sit back and enjoy the holidays.

Check back tomorrow for my giveaway!  You won't want to miss it.

  1. I love that you were able to get a real Christmas tree! I really wanted to cut one down this year, but I'm highly allergic to them. We ended up just sticking with a fake one, which I guess is for the better...

  2. I love your tree. I'm thinking next year we may get a real tree :)

    I love that your family does that. Talk about saving a lot of money in the long run! I am going to see if my family will be into doing something like this next year! You would even be able to buy a better gift because you would be spending less on gifts. Such a great idea!

  3. Lucky you for having most of the Christmas stress out of the way. Now you can just enjoy the warmth of the season. 'Course you are one of the most "got it all together" person that I know.

  5. We DO have the same star! Love it! My parents always put candy canes on the Christmas tree, and I do NOT put them on mine for the very reason you stated--I will eat. them. all. LOL. But it's a nice treat on Christmas Day when we go to their place.

  6. Aww y'all's tree is adorable, and I can just picture MJ running across the street with it in his arms haha! I like the idea of the adult gift exchange, so much simpler than trying to get something for everyone! I am not completely done, but I am close thank goodness! And we finally got our tree up 2 nights ago!

  7. You are a miracle worker getting all your shopping done in one afternoon! I suppose the whole secret santa thing would help with that too... but still! Love your tree, the candy canes are too cute! I tried to be all smart last year and buy some of the larger, pretty ones for like 10 cents for decorating the tree with this year--wuh-wuhh... they got all melty and ugly in storage. darn.

  8. We have the same star on our tree! Small world. I love the idea of a family gift exchange. My family is getting too big to have to buy every single person a present. Parents, siblings, spouses, nieces, nephews. It gets tiring and expensive. I will bring up the idea of a gift exchange for next Christmas :)

  9. Love your tree! So cute!

    I'm also pretty much done with Christmas shopping. Such a good feeling, not having to run around on Christmas Eve desperately searching for that one last gift!

  10. We do Secret Santa in our family for the same reason! I love the tree! We have two small trees (tiny actually), and I think the next time that we move up in size it will be that one!

  13. Such a cute tree! I am allergic to pine so seeing the real thing sometimes terrifies me... but I would be right there with you eating one of those Candy Canes daily. :)
