My Husband is Not My Brother

It's still warm.  It was in the 80's over the weekend so I took advantage of it and wore my new favorite wardrobe item-a dress.  I feel like we skipped Winter and are jumping straight ahead to Spring.

I don't know my parent's exact age.  I only know if they tell me and then afterwards I usually forget.  I don't feel bad about it because half the time I can't remember how old I am but the other side of it is I don't like to think of my parents getting older.  By  not knowing their age I am trying to trick myself into believing that they will be around forever and ever.  It's easy to trick yourself when your parents don't look old.  I mean, they have aged in the last 20 years but they still look great and go to the gym more then we do.  My beautiful mom turned another year older on Sunday and we celebrated with them on Saturday.

My mom was looking for a new blush so we went straight to Mac and I bought her that and the blush brush as an add on to her Birthday gift.  How many times in my life has it been the other way around?  Too many to count; so it feels good to buy something for her while we are out shopping.

My mom's choice for dinner was Benihana and it was a good one.  Neither one of my parents have been there and the last time MJ or I went was a long long time ago before we even met.  If you've never been there-it's a Japanese restaurant where they cook your entire meal on a giant grill right in front of you.  They also sing and give you a free dessert on your birthday.  The food was really good and we all had a really fun time.

They also take your picture and give it to you for free.  I was waiting for the lady to tell us that it would be $10 if we wanted to buy the picture but there was no charge and they even give you a code so you can get it online.  And while we are on the topic; what's up with places charging you exorbitant prices for pictures when everyone has digital cameras and can take it themselves for free?  I don't even know what to do with actual in my hand picture anymore.  I tend to stuff them into our wedding album that we keep downstairs on the lower shelf of our coffee table.

We were seated with another couple celebrating their Birthday and at one point the woman says to us, "How many years apart are you?"  I looked at MJ and we start laughing because it was clear to me that she thought we were brother and sister and that my parents were our parents.  It was a little awkward because we are very married and then she was apologizing.  I don't know if I felt worse for them or for us but we all just laughed it off.  I wasn't offended but it was awkward.  We started elbowing each other.  I asked mom to make him stop, we kissed (on the lips for emphasis) and made up and that was the end of it.  It's not the first time someone thought we were related.  I see couples that look related and I kinda think it's funny but I would NEVER ask someone such a question unless I knew for sure.  It's not as bad as someone asking how far along I am when there is no baby in sight though.  That would be much worse.

  1. Happy Birthday to your mom! Glad you guys were able to enjoy a nice dinner.
I have the same issue when my boyfriend and I are out and about together sometimes. I've had several people ask me if we are brothers and sisters? We had just kissed goodbye on one occasion and was quite confused at the question. Sigh.

  2. I've heard often that couples begin to look like each other ... not that anyone really wants to hear that.

I don't know my parents exact age either ... they tell me on each birthday but I forget right after. I always thought it was careless of me but now I'm happy I'm not the only one, haha.

    Loving your dress!

  3. So funny! People are always telling Andy and I that we look related. I think that's pretty common - to be attracted to someone on the same level as you. Ha!

  5. I have always wanted to try Benihana! I love those places that grill right in front of you, that's fun. I'm glad you got to celebrate with your mom and dad, they are too cute. I try not to think too hard about my parents aging either, I wish that just wasn't something that happened. I love that you bought your mom something while out shopping because you are right, how many time have our moms bought us stuff? Too many to count! It always feels so nice to return the favor. You and MJ do not look alike to me! That poor lady, I bet she was embarrassed that she asked that. I don't think I would have even realized that's what the person thought if they asked me and Garrett that lol. You look beautiful in your dress!

  6. Well the saying that couples tend to start looking alike after being together for a while applies lol. Great picture of you guys.

  7. Your mom is a fricken knock out, geez! Totally laughed about the other guests thinking you and MJ were siblings. That's never happened to me with D but it definitely did in college with boyfriends. It's because you guys look so damn young :)

  8. I had to laugh about this post because, although I am 48 and my son 25, on the rare occasions we go somewhere together, people think we are a couple. I'm under 5' tall and quite slender; apparently to some people I look rather young, My son is over 6' tall and I guess looks more "grown-up". For the past few months, I have been growing out my grey hair to help me look more "adult"! :-)

  9. This made me giggle. I've had people in a restaurant ask my older girlfriend back in Maryland if she was my Mother. Awkward! Cute dress btw!

  13. I know my mother's age because I'm into dates that's all. My husband doesn't remember his parents and sisters, so I remind him when he wants to know. Looking at the positive side of you looking like your husband means you are the perfect match. Nice couple.

I love your spring outfit :)

  15. Happy Birthday to your mom. That was such a funny story, that's why it's not a good thing to make assumptions. You handled it well though and you both look so good in that pic of just the two of you

Love love your dress and I am totally jealous of your gorgeous weather

  16. Love that striped dress on you. Especially with the red belt :) So cute!

And that would be a bit awkward but I'm glad you were able to laugh it off. It was probably more embarrassing for her than for you, lol.

  18. You know I love Benihana's!! Happy Birthday to your momma ;)
Seriously, who asks that? I mean I guess I see it, but it's more obvious that you're a couple. I do think that's better than people thinking Will is my dad, haha. He now has a few silver hairs and between his beard and me looking so young...I'm pretty sure someone thought he was my dad when we were home. Hehe

  19. I do the exact same thing about my parents' age! The weird part is that I'm actually depressed on my birthday because this means that my parents are also getting older!

By the way, that dress is so cute! :)

  20. Your not the only one. As soon as my mom tells me her age I forget. I guess the important thing is that I remember her birthday.

  22. my husband and i were on our honeymoon in italy. we were on a bus going to the amalfi coast. it was packed and my husband got up to offer his seat to someone. she said, "no that's ok. please just sit with your daughter." when my husband said that i was his wife, the whole bus started cracking up.
